Magic to conjure up academic skills for dissertation support

چکیده

This project uses magic to explore dissertation skills with students. Students in a session on preparing for the learnt trick and then used their experience of learning reflect develop narratives around topic focussing researching writing. We compared results intervention group those control (who were given same but excluding trick). The teaching sessions integrated essential completing such as critical thinking, linking, metacognitive reflection, conceptualising process long project. Previous research has suggested that using can stimulate curiosity, engage motivate students, they will find more memorable (see Moss, Irons Boland, 2017; Wiseman Watt, 2020; Wiseman, Wiles 2021) presentation reported findings from pre- post-session questionnaires completed by participants evaluate use by: Evaluating effectiveness teach skills. make memorable. support motivation positive emotions tasks. counter some negative affects students encounter lack or self-efficacy beliefs.
